spirits of spirits.
A twelve year journey. This ongoing group of work is about essence and spirits. It began in 1996 when I began interviewing different artists and friends about their totem animal and then photographed them posing as their animal. I used the photos and interviews to inform me while I painted their "Animal Posture" portrait. I then continued a further interview series with artists about direct spiritual identity. Again, using photos and conversation as reference material, I painted a group of "Spiritual Portraits" which I called "Numinous Marks and Remarks" (at this point I had interviewed myself two times!). I was allowing grace and intuition to guide me while painting with light. I currently practice moving freely between abstract and dream and figuration.

what happened today .
Today I painted weather in many old books. I took the dogs for a walk and came home and painted some more. The wind was low and slow, the blue sky fought against my moodiness and allowed me to introduce lots of it - blue - into today's work. The blue also brought out my yellow.

dreams and streams.
