ANIMAL POSTURES
The work is heavily layered and glazed, with words and colors scratched into an atmosphere of intensity creating both physical depth and deep radiance. When working on "Spirits of Spirits", “Animal Postures” or “Numinous Portraits” paintings I take many photographs and use these and/or interviews as initial reference, and go back and forth between photos, spoken language and divine silences that have been exchanged between myself and whomever's "portrait" I am painting. Recognizable figures appear. When working abstractly I'm guided by the immediacy of weather and light and graced momentum. Always I aspire to have the resulting glow transform each painting into dreamtime.
